The new service offers multidisciplinary and personalized care for the early detection and treatment of breast pathologies, especially breast cancer.
Patients will be able to receive their radiological diagnosis within 72 hours.
Valencia – Vithas Valencia Turia Hospital, which opened its doors last April, has launched its Breast Unit, a specialized service committed to rapid diagnosis, comprehensive care, and multidisciplinary coordination to effectively address breast pathologies, particularly breast cancer.
The unit is made up of a team of professionals in General Surgery, Radiology, Oncology, and Plastic Surgery, who work together to provide each patient with personalized, efficient, and high-quality care.
As highlighted by Dr. Javier Belenguer, general surgeon at Vithas Valencia Turia Hospital, “our goal is to reduce waiting times, avoid unnecessary travel, and provide a complete medical response in the shortest possible time”.

Early Diagnosis and Fast-Track Care
The unit incorporates advanced technology for performing mammograms, ultrasounds, and guided biopsies, allowing for a precise radiological diagnosis within 72 hours. The service is designed so that patients can undergo all necessary tests in one place, avoiding delays and fragmented care.
“Early detection is key to improving breast cancer diagnosis. Thanks to this service model, we can start treatment more quickly and effectively”, notes Dr. Belenguer.

The Breast Unit also features a tomosynthesis mammograph, a cutting-edge technology that produces three-dimensional images of the breast with greater precision than conventional mammography. This technique significantly enhances the ability to detect lesions—especially in dense breast tissue—by reducing tissue overlap and facilitating the identification of abnormalities that might otherwise go unnoticed in traditional studies.
The incorporation of tomosynthesis not only optimizes early breast cancer diagnosis but also enables the planning of more effective and less invasive treatments. Detecting pathology at early stages increases the chances of recovery, reduces the need for aggressive interventions, and improves the overall prognosis for patients.

Coordination Across Specialties
One of the main strengths of the unit is the coordination among medical specialties, allowing for the design of personalized therapeutic plans for each patient. From conservative surgery to breast reconstruction, the approach is comprehensive, addressing both physical recovery and emotional well-being.
In this regard, Dr. Alessandro Thione, Head of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (UCPRE) at Vithas Valencia Turia Hospital, explains: “Throughout the journey faced by patients with breast cancer, we plastic surgeons often have the opportunity to deliver one of the few pieces of good news—the possibility of restoring their image, and with it, a part of their life. In the new hospital, we offer advanced reconstruction techniques that respect both aesthetics and functionality, while also helping to restore confidence and hope”.
For this reason, breast reconstruction is considered a fundamental pillar of treatment, naturally integrated into the therapeutic process and reinforcing the human and emotional support offered to every patient.

Patient-Centered Women’s Care
The new Breast Unit reinforces Vithas Valencia Turia Hospital’s commitment to women’s health, offering an environment of trust, privacy, and continuous support. Patients receive personalized follow-up throughout the entire process.
“We want every woman to feel heard, cared for, and supported. This unit not only treats diseases—it places each woman at the center of all our attention”, affirms Dr. Belenguer.
